Dr. Nameeta Nadkarni
BVSc, MVSc (Surgery)
Dr. Nameeta Nadkarni’s journey to becoming a veterinarian was ignited by a story in her 4th-grade English textbook about a compassionate vet aiding a white tiger with a toothache. Despite not growing up with pets, she felt an unwavering calling to care for animals. Graduating from Mumbai Veterinary College and completing her master’s in surgery, she pursued her dream career with relentless determination.
To enhance her surgical skills, Dr. Nadkarni undertook observerships at esteemed institutions like Colorado State University and Ontario State University. There, she immersed herself in the world of minimally invasive surgery and endoscopy, honing her expertise to provide the best care to her furry patients.
For eight years, Dr. Nadkarni served as a skilled surgeon in a private practice in Mumbai, gaining invaluable experience in cancer surgeries. Her dedication to enhancing cancer care led her to join The Cancer Vet team, engaging in meaningful conversations with Dr. Noopur.
Outside her professional pursuits, she found joy in traveling, music, and reading. During the pandemic, she discovered her talent for writing and now contributes a biweekly column called “Wizard of Paws” in Live Mint Lounge, educating pet parents about responsible pet ownership.
On a personal level, Dr. Nadkarni holds her two beloved companions dear—a whimsical 8-year-old cat named Catbury and a 2-year-old rescued golden retriever named Musafir. They have brought immense joy to her life and deepened her empathy as a veterinarian.
Reflecting on her journey, Dr. Nadkarni is thrilled to witness the evolution of the veterinary profession, offering versatile opportunities to provide exceptional care to cherished animals. Her childhood dream of becoming a veterinarian has transformed into a rewarding reality, filling her with happiness and fulfillment.
